Hell's empty; it's in my heart.

I cherish the quiet morning sun,
One bright light in the sky, or my favourite book
eight pages until the end of the best chapter
so I have to put it down so I'll never know
I've marked my place with an envelope
addressed to me from you, your handwriting
careless, messy, wonderful and relaxed
When you come to see me and we can't wake up
I'll make us coffee in nothing but a t-shirt
I like mine with cream and sugar but you like it
black and bitter because you said it
makes you feel something real and raw
but I like it sweet because I'm happy it's just
the two of us.

Sick Day.

Sick Day.
In the hands of too many moths
Dangling me at a frightening height
An ebb and flow of clutches
Like a tide that washes over me
Just slowly enough for a painful reminder
Of how happy and healthy I felt
just yesterday. But only in bursts.
For I am in the hands of a cruel river,
And the quiet, dusty butterfly.

Tick tock.

Tick tock.
A desperate look at my pocket watch,
my lady in waiting —angry at her little boy
long gown and a long face and oh, I cannot stay
to answer the calls of another young girl
lifting her dress above her ankles to chase after me
through the poppy fields, down the rolling hills
"Oh, Mr. White Rabbit!" she sings to me as I run
For I am quite behind schedule as it is, you see
"I'm late, I'm late!" I cry in return as I make a mad dash
Down, down, down the rabbit hole I go,
though she is sure to follow.

Forever Eleven.

Forever Eleven.
Eleven tiles on the ceiling were counted,
before I stepped cautiously on each
carefully considered grain of wood,
slipping into well-loved, worn shoes
Eleven blocks walked to my favourite bakery
a loaf of bread warm in my palms, each piece
a sigh of fresh steam and a satisfied smile
Eleven cents change jingles in my pocket,
and I am at peace with that odd little number.

I had the great honour of being tagged by sweet and lovely @herewithlu, who has been a great part of my life (however quiet) especially in recent months.

Here are some rules:

Rule 1: Always post the rules. (Reminds you of Fight Club, doesn't it?)
Rule 2: Answer the questions the person who tagged you has asked and write eleven new ones.
Rule 3: Tag eleven new people!

1. What are you most passionate about in life?
• Ah, I am passionate about far too much in life. I will try and simplify. I love the world for how much it challenges me but also for what it gives. I am passionate about compassion. I love humans, animals, the earth, sky, trees, beautiful old buildings with hardwood floors and high ceilings. I love to give, I love to share, and I love to be shared with. I like opening the minds of sad or angry people by reminding them that beauty is still left in the world. I am passionate about the rights of every living thing, and I believe in the acceptance of any colour, race, culture or religion. I am passionate about art, music, simple pleasures, but I am passionate about loving most of all.

2. Who is your favourite musician or group?
• This is also a very difficult question to answer. I will forever love Ella Fitzgerald. She could sing to me forever and I would never tire of her.

3. What is the funniest thing that has happened to you or a close friend in the last few years?
• I laugh at so much, that I don't believe I can answer this!

4. Do roller-coasters make you deliriously happy or scared out of your mind? (Yes, this is an either or, there is no in between!)
• Oh, I am frightened by roller coasters. I will never ride one. But I love to look at them. They're quite marvelous to look at.

5. I’m sorry, I have to go here, I’m running out of ideas – who, if anyone, do you have a celebrity crush on?
• I will forever have a girl-crush on Audrey Hepburn. She is perfect. Otherwise, a young Marlon Brando.

6. Do you play an instrument?
• I play three! Piano, flute, and ukulele. If my own voice counts as an instrument, then I suppose I play four.

7. If you could pass one law in your country right now, what would it be?
• I would absolutely legalize all love. It is not up to us to tell us who can and can't marry.

8. If you had your ideal job, what would it be? Do you have it?
• My ideal job would be to work with challenged or underprivileged children, share my art with them, and inspire them as much as I could to make their own creations, and to never feel ashamed of their creativity and to always share it with whomever they can.

9. What’s your favourite food?
• My favourite foods are Japanese Kansai staples: summer soba, udon, okonomiyaki, and sushi if it counts!

10. If you could sit down and talk to anyone in the world, who would you talk to?
• I would talk His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. He has so much wisdom and peacefulness to impart! I would be forever honoured and grateful to listen to him.

11. Who are you closest to in your family?
• I'm closest to my mama. She is the most wonderful person I know and I hope that one day I can be half the woman that she is.

Answer these for me!
1. What is your favourite simple pleasure?

2. What part of your day do you like best (i.e. dusk, mid-afternoon)?

4. What is your favourite song right now? Why?

5. Who is your real-life hero, and why?

6. Do you have a lucky number? If so, what is it? Is there a special reason behind your number?

7. What's your best habit? Your worst?

8. What's your favourite part about each of the four seasons?

9. Do you have a comfort food or drink?

10. If you could learn a foreign language, what would it be? Look up how to say "I love you" in the language. What is it?

11. What's your favourite color and why?

I choose you!
@gem14
@blakeyboo
@aannnddddi
4. Anyone
5. that's
6. filled
7. this
8. out
9. before
10. is
11. fine.

If you want to fill this out, go for it! I really need to get re-involved with Polyvore. If you're not tagged but want to answer these, go right ahead! If you don't care to put it in a set, go ahead and write it in the comments of mine. Many of the old friends I've made haven't been active for at least five months. So I'll say the same thing a little differently: Let's be friends!

Heart Collector.

Heart Collector.
Such a faraway look for such a young girl
as she runs amuck in my flawless gardens
holding the blood of my enemies in one hand
and a brush in another; just to ruin the only
truly pure and wonderful, lovely things I have left.
Only wicked girls would break my heart;
only wicked girls would paint my roses red.

In Another Life.

In Another Life.
Once I was a different girl
in a world long forgotten
with flowing dresses, curled hair
hand mirrors and strings of pearls.
Only one thing has never changed:
In that life and this one, you see...
I was never the kind of girl
that couldn't enjoy a little...

...adventure.

Sticks and Stones.

Sticks and Stones.
These bones were already broken.
Wearing my heart on my sleeve
has made me entirely vulnerable and
your words were the perfect weapon.

Master manipulator with your raven hair
ruby red lips, ivory skin, and divine touch.
A gorgeous wolf in sheep skin.

I can see you now,
making your way far from here
down your perfect dirt road with no trail,
and I am left with nothing
but a cold prayer
and the memory of you.

Fortune's Best.

Fortune's Best.
Our fates —read in the palms
of everyone in love with
the world and with fellow man;
clasped with one another,
united and strong, alive and well.
We are all connected at the seams.
A beautiful woven tapestry
of life, death, heaven and earth.
We are fortune's best hope
when we are at peace with what's around us.
It favours us most
when our deep breaths mean something,
when our heads are held high,
when we can accept all sizes, races, genders,
every form of love, religion, and free thought
free speech
free worlds
free hearts.
The future is in our hands,
I can see it in the cards.

Discipline.

Discipline.
Tiny, pretty curved toes,
Light enough to stand on.
A deep pain concealed by
my little pink shoe, tied
with beautiful ribbons
around and around
long, extended legs.

"Straighter," she says.
I raise my head and breathe
Arabesque penchée, and then...
"Piqué, piqué, piqué, piqué!"
Pirouette, plié, and a bow.

More grace than I am worth;
a simple girl in too pretty a gown
The dance of my life, en pointe.

Diamond Scandal.
Of course I shall never
ever accept this beautiful thing
A necklace made for
another girl only makes
me weary; tired in fact
For now I only feel ashamed
that such an offer should be made.
